Help Your Dog Get Rid Of Fleas And Ticks The Natural Way

By Catherine V. Testaratti

In this article we are going to talk about ways to cure your flea and tick problems without using harsh chemicals and over the counter methods. We will outline some choices that you can use that will work as well as chemical methods. These methods are softer and easier ways to eliminate these parasites.

Wanting to keep your pet happy and healthy is something we all strive for. Keeping our children safe and healthy is also a concern. Chemical flea treatments are something we have all heard can be harmful to both our pets and kids.

You can start with an age old method of brewers yeast and a little bit of garlic mixed into their food. For cats, eliminate the garlic due to the fact that onions and garlic are toxic for cats. For a sweeter option, try squeezing lemon juice or orange juice on their fur and rub it in; acting as a natural repellent.

When you give your dog a bath, notice that the fleas will fall off? Using liquid dish soap with a citrus base and a regular brushing will keep the flea problem under control. Fleas do not take hold of the hair shaft so these solutions are relatively easy.

Beneficial nematode worms work great in your garden. These are not the worms that cause heart worms so not to worry. These beneficial worms feed off the flea larva so having them in your garden and yard is a plus. Keeping your floors swept and carpets vacuumed will also help.

Ticks live in wooded areas in tall grass. Ticks are attracted to the warmth from the body. A good way to keep your dog tick free or to minimize the flea infestation is to cover them with an old T-shirt and use socks like leg warmers. I know it sounds funny but it will not only protect your pet to a degree, but definitely get people to notice you and your pet.

Using a T-shirt to cover your dog's body and belly will not keep the ticks away, however, it slows their progress to uncovered places as do the socks. By covering the hair it hinders the tick's access to the warm b therefore acting as a deterrent. And talk about a chick magnet; this might work better than a cute puppy.

A natural tick repellent is rose geranium oil. Rub some on the inside of your dog's collar and on their coat to ward off those pesky critters. Not recommended for cats because cats will have a severe reaction to these essential oils.

Remember that when you remove a tick you must do it properly, by getting the head of the tick from the pet. Summer time is the worst time for ticks and fleas so be proactive in prevention. Treatment of your yard, regular brushing and simple remedies and you should be pest free for summer. - 31975

Important Facts You Need to Know About Keeping Your Dog Healthy

By Sherry Aplin

Dog health is important first and foremost because you are your dog's primary guardian. A dog, like most pets, can be a loyal friend and companion, but they are really as vulnerable as a child. Dog health is often a cause of worry for every pet owner. Dog health questions are on the top of the mind for every dog lover and owner. Senior dog health often has more urgency than puppy health, but preventative medicine for any dog is critical to your dog's health and well being.

Exercise is a important part of your dog's health, however, where you live and the type of job you have can effect the amount of exercise that your dog can get. If you work eight hours a day, work down town or far away from work, or if you have a apartment where residences are built close together and you can barely find some grassy area, let alone walk your dog, he probably won't get a lot of exercise. Exercises depend on your dog's sex, age, and health level. A dog likes to jog, fetch, and race-walk a lot.

A fenced yard or local park is ideal for exercising your dog. All dogs love a good game of fetch so bring a ball or other dog toys to liven things up. Just as exercise strengthens our heart, lungs and muscles, it will do the same thing for your dog.

Once started, feeding your dog table scraps is a hard habit to break. Do yourself a favor and don't start! All breeds of dogs require a quality, nutritionally sound food source. Consult with your vet if your dog has any conditions that may require special foods. Otherwise there are many good, trusted dog foods on the market. If you do choose to feed your dog "people" food, beef liver is a good choice. It is high in iron, and rich in protien, B complex and B12 vitamins. If your dog is extremely finicky, consult your vet as there may be other issues going on.

To help your dog live a long and healthy life, preventive medicine is the key. Schedule regular check ups, professional cleanings, and give scheduled heart worm and other medicines. Start these good habits as soon as you bring home that cute, cuddly new puppy. If you provide regular visits to your vet for vaccinations, dental care, heart worm checkups, your dog will provide you with love and devotion always. - 31975

Dog Training Tips To Have A Well Behaved Dog

By Richard Brown

Some dogs are not easy to train. Some people believe that such dogs are often stupid and dumb. This is not the truth. Such a dog may actually be more intelligent than others. There are many reasons why a dog may be hard to train.

Dogs are born natural hunters and fighters. So they keep showing their skills in anything they do. Some of them have a high level of intelligence and dominance. They seem to be hard to train due to these traits. Some are intelligent enough to guess what is going in our mind.

Dogs are often very determined to do that they want to do. If a dog is devoting his attention to a toy or something, you should let him or her do it. Once the dog is satisfied, he or she will stop playing with it.

If the dog starts chewing something or digging up something buried underground, it may be difficult to divert his attention. This shows that the dog has a lot of determination to achieve what he wants to.

If you are trying to get your dog to exercise and he comes upon something that interests him, you should better let him do it no matter how long it takes. Once he is done, you can continue the exercises.

The dog training sessions have to be interesting. You can get him to find hidden toys or do innovative exercises that stimulate his brain. You can do things that your dog likes the most as he responds better to interesting things.

It will be great to get membership at a local kennel club. Thus you will be in touch with other dog owners and know how to train your dog in the best way. You will also be able to participate in various shows and contests for dogs.

Thus you can successfully train your dog to do the right things. But make sure you never use force on him for any reason. - 31975

Types Of All Natural Dog Food

By Moses Wright

"All natural dog food" is a phrase commonly describing dog food that contains natural or organic ingredients. This phrase is widely used and may be misleading.

Commercial dog foods typically use artificial colors, artificial flavoring, and preservatives. Several small dog food manufacturers produce natural dog food that does not contain these artificial ingredients.

If the dog food claims to be natural, does not necessarily make it healthy for dogs. For example, a dog food that consists of corn and other grains and no protein could be labeled as all natural if it only contains grains, but a diet such as this can be detrimental to the dog's health.

Dog owners need to consider what ingredients are included in the dog food in addition to whether or not the ingredients are organic or natural. A dog diet should be largely based on protein from meat, though an all meat diet should be avoided.

There are different types of healthy dog food with quality ingredients. Some commercial dog foods with organic ingredients and good sources of protein can be a healthy, natural dog food.

Many dog owners prefer to make all natural, homemade dog food. The homemade dog food can be healthy, cooked dog food recipes or a raw dog food diet. Making dog food is appealing to many dog owners because it gives them control over the type of ingredients and the quality of ingredients in the dog food.

Most of the dogs diet should come from protein from a natural animal source such as chicken or beef. Whether the dog owner decides to feed the dog commercial dog food or homemade dog food, the dog owner should ensure that the dog's diet is mostly protein. Few commercial dog foods contain mostly natural protein.

A variety of vegetables and grains may be a healthy part of the dog's diet. A variety of vegetables can help make sure that the dog is receiving the appropriate vitamins in its diet.

If a dog owner decides to make homemade dog food, the dog owner should make sure that they know which foods can be toxic to dogs. Chocolate, onions, avocado, coffee, and raisins are some examples of foods that should not be put in homemade dog food. A dog owner should feel free to ask the veterinarian any questions the dog owner may have about the dog's diet. - 31975

Best Training Tips For Pet Dogs

By Richard Winson

The dog should be trained to eat at every place. He should be told how to eat indoors or outdoors. This is necessary in case you need to take the dog to any event or show.

An important part of dog training is to train him to use the crate. Then you can carry the crate anywhere. The puppy should be trained to sit in the crate. As far as potty training is concerned, you should buy a flexi leash and train the dog to go potty there.

You should train your dog to be quiet in the car. He should stay quiet when you ask him to. You can encourage him to follow your order by rewarding him every time he agrees to what you say. So he can become obedient and accept all your orders.

You can use the dog training session to establish a good and respectful relationship with your dog. If the dog is trained well, you will be confident of controlling him in any situation.

You should never be violent with your puppy. If you do it, he will not follow your orders. You can stop him from doing things by saying "No". Take him to the toilet to urinate and clean the place where he urinates a few times initially.

Some dogs love chewing the furniture. The reason can be that he just likes chewing things. You can stop him from doing so. You can buy some good chewing toys that will catch the interest of your puppy and not make him feel bored.

You can paint some objects with foul tasting substances. This will prevent your dog to stop chewing that thing. Such substances are available at pet stores. The Aversion therapy is also very helpful in such cases.

Obedience training is an important part of dog training. You should not have long sessions in which he gets bored. Using violence will not help at all. You should also adopt simpler commands for dogs. - 31975
